Dry Cold in Uttarakhand Intensifies Problems, Frost in Hill Areas Brings Sharp Chill

Dehradun, Uttarakhand: The state of Uttarakhand is currently experiencing dry weather, causing severe discomfort for children and the elderly. In the hill regions, frost has added to the hardship, while the plains are grappling with biting dry cold.

Weather Update

According to local meteorologists, the weather across Uttarakhand remains stable with no significant changes expected in the near term. The maximum temperatures have dropped, making daytime feel chilly, while the minimum night temperatures are causing intense cold during early mornings and late evenings.

In Dehradun, today’s maximum temperature is expected to be around 24.5°C, while the minimum may drop to 13.8°C. Cloud cover is predicted to increase slightly, but rainfall is not anticipated.

Health Impact

The ongoing dry cold is affecting the health of vulnerable groups, particularly children and senior citizens. Respiratory ailments such as cough, cold, and fever are on the rise. Additionally, patients with arthritis and back pain are experiencing intensified discomfort due to the dropping temperatures.

At the Government Doon Medical College, the Orthopedic OPD reported over 300 patients with joint pain on Monday alone. Doctors explain that during cold weather, blood circulation slows down, causing muscles around the joints to stiffen, leading to swelling, stiffness, and pain.

Medical Advice

Dr. Anil Joshi, Head of the Orthopedic Department, advises residents to stay warm, engage in light exercises and stretching, and use warm compresses. Maintaining a balanced diet is also essential to minimize the impact of cold weather.

The dry cold and frost conditions in Uttarakhand highlight the need for increased health precautions, especially for children, elderly, and patients with joint or respiratory conditions. Proper care and preventive measures are crucial to stay safe and healthy during this chilly spell.
