Bihar Police Nab Fugitive ‘Principal’ in Guwahati After 10-Day Operation

Nalanda, Bihar / Guwahati, Assam: In a meticulously planned operation, Bihar Police arrested a 40-year-old man wanted in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old girl in Samastipur district. The suspect, identified as Kumud Kumar alias Deepak, had fled Bihar and was hiding in Guwahati. Police laid a trap in the city for ten consecutive days before finally apprehending him with the help of local authorities.

Details of the Crime

According to police, Kumud Kumar allegedly shot and killed the victim, Gudia Kumari, after the girl opposed his romantic advances toward her elder sister. The incident occurred around 11 August, and he fled immediately afterward. During questioning, Kumud admitted:
“I wanted to marry my girlfriend, but her family, particularly her younger sister Gudia, opposed our relationship. When Gudia tried to block my marriage, I shot her. After killing Gudia, I intended to harm my girlfriend too but fled fearing arrest.”

Fugitive Hides in Guwahati

Investigations revealed that Kumud had changed his appearance to evade arrest. After fleeing Bihar, he initially went to Khagaria and then took a train to Guwahati, where he rented a house on Jyoti Nagar, RPF Colony Road, giving false information to conceal his identity. He even shaved his beard and hair to avoid detection.

Bihar Police, in coordination with Guwahati police, tracked him down. A special team remained in Guwahati for 10 days, laying a meticulous trap, and finally arrested him on Tuesday with the help of local authorities.

Background of the Suspect

Kumud Kumar, a resident of Neemganj village, Biharsharif, Nalanda district, worked as a school principal in Bahedi. After the crime, he had been on the run, and police had been actively searching for him across Bihar and neighboring states.

Following his arrest, Kumud was brought back to Samastipur and sent to jail. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crime and his escape.
