A 20 km Detour Ends: PM Modi’s ‘Swagat’ Programme Becomes a Gamechanger Once Again in Gujarat

In a major relief for villagers of Porbandar district, the long-pending demand for a direct road link between Modadra and Paswari has finally been approved—thanks to the impactful ‘Swagat’ online grievance redressal programme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister. The programme, now completing 22 years, has once again delivered a life-changing solution for rural residents.

Villagers’ Decades-Old Problem Solved Through Technology

Residents of Modadra village in Rapar taluka presented their long-standing road and bridge concerns before Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during the state-level ‘Swagat’ public hearing. Leading the representation, Lakhmanbhai Modadra and other farmers explained how the absence of a direct road forced them to take a 20-kilometre detour, crossing four other villages to reach Kutiyana. They also highlighted the life-threatening risks villagers faced while crossing fields and a river where water remains for eight months of the year.

Moved by their genuine difficulties, the Chief Minister immediately approved a ₹9 crore project to construct a minor bridge, culvert, and a 3 km connecting road between Modadra and Paswari. He also issued orders to begin the work without delay.

Approval Within Four Days

Villagers expressed their joy, recalling how quickly the government responded.
“We returned to our village after presenting the issue to the Chief Minister. Just four days later, we received a call from the CMO confirming the approval,” said Lakhmanbhai. “For a small village like ours, this is a huge moment.”

A Road That Will Change Lives

The new bridge and road will transform daily life in the region:

  • Shorter and safer travel for villagers
  • Students will reach schools more easily
  • Farmers will gain direct access to their fields
  • Patients can be rushed to hospitals faster in emergencies
  • Livestock movement will become safer
  • The constant fear of drowning during river crossings will end

Local resident Rameshbhai Kanragia described the upcoming road as a lifeline, saying it will save countless lives and bring long-awaited convenience to the community.

Swagat Programme: A Proven Model of Governance

Launched by PM Modi over two decades ago, the Swagat Portal has consistently helped government officials directly address citizens’ grievances through technology-driven governance. The latest success in Modadra stands as yet another example of how the programme continues to deliver real impact at the grassroots level.
