The political landscape of Uttar Pradesh was shaken on Wednesday after the sudden demise of Samajwadi Party MLA Sudhakar Singh from the Ghosi Assembly constituency in Mau district. Following complaints of severe chest pain, Singh was admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow, where he breathed his last. As soon as the news broke, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, senior leader Shivpal Singh Yadav and several other prominent politicians rushed to the hospital to pay their respects.
A prominent Rajput leader, Sudhakar Singh was counted among the strong faces of the Samajwadi Party in eastern Uttar Pradesh. He enjoyed immense popularity in the region. During the Emergency, he was also jailed, and is often remembered as a Lok Rakshak Sainik. Over the years, several criminal cases were registered against him, yet his political influence remained intact. Singh began his political journey in 1996 and rose to prominence after defeating BJP’s cabinet minister Dara Singh Chauhan in the 2023 bypoll from Ghosi.

Alongside his political legacy, people are curious about his family. Sudhakar Singh’s wife, Kuldip Singh alias Chinta Devi, served as a teacher at an inter college. Reports suggest that she too has been struggling with health issues in recent days.

Their elder son, Ajit Singh, manages his business in Lucknow. The younger son, Sujit Singh, is actively involved in politics and has been working closely with his father to continue his political journey. Sujit Singh has previously served as the Block Pramukh of Ghosi block in Mau district.
Family Assets
During the 2023 by-election, Sudhakar Singh declared his assets in an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission. According to it, the couple owned ₹71.5 lakh in movable assets and ₹1.53 crore in immovable assets.

The emotional scene at the hospital was overwhelming as Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal Yadav and even Dara Singh Chauhan reached to console the bereaved family. Singh’s younger son was seen breaking down as senior leaders hugged him and offered support.
Sudhakar Singh’s death has not only created a vacuum in the politics of Mau but has also left his family and supporters in deep grief. His contributions, career battles and inspiring political journey will be remembered for long.
